eather Retreat 2003 was at a new location and not
at the same camp. It was also the first year that it was
wet from rain, rain, and more rain! I didn't arrive until
Friday and decided to camp in a tent (a discounted price) as
opposed to staying in the cabins. The cabins were not as
nice as the ones at the old camp. The property wasn't bad,
although the grassy areas were flat, they were mostly at an
incline which might have been ok except they were all so wet and
the other flat areas were all so muddy.
Although it was relaxing, even
without the rain I'm not sure I like this camp as well as the
other location, which by the way is where Camp Crucible will be
this year!
Ok, so about the pony play part
of the weekend. Friday night was Casino night and a few of
the ponies connected with various carts and drivers to do pony
races for the Casino betting. My friend Eric from
Wisconsin was at camp and had modified his wheel chair to double
as his pony cart. It was the first real test (outside of
Brandy aka Whipzend giving it a try) to see if it worked well. The
first race I almost won but had to shorten my stride on the end
as my feet were kicking Eric's feet that had come out of the
foot rest of the wheel chair. He didn't notice until he
saw his feet hanging (no feeling there). The next 2 races
he was aware of this and was able to keep the feet in. He
also had some type of static lights on the wheels that looked
really great as we were speeding through the race course.
BTW, I won the last race. It was a blast! Hargy & Mistress
Alicia won the second race with pony robert and Elayne winning
the first race by an inch (so I'm told!)
I didn't tack up until Sunday for the Pony
Show and was asked to enter it with MsMighty. She had
ridden me a few years ago and came in just for the pony show
(ok, so the organizers said there were no "day" passes they did
allow one <LOL> thanks Greg!) which was a very nice surprise.
MsMighty looked so great in her
boots, black riding pants, and red riding coat. The pony
show was in a pavilion with no inside seating for the
spectators. There were a few sets of bleachers brought
nearby. Since all we were going to do was to have fun, we
decided to ride outside of the show area and between the
bleachers so the spectators could see. MsMighty also
wanted some music and choose the Abba song "Waterloo" which
seemed appropriate with all the rain!
So, the song started and we
rode around. MsMighty likes to trot so, it was a fast
paced ride doing a jump onto the stage, a quick stop, then a
quick ride off the stage. Out the door area with a few
jumps off the steps.. up the hill and between the bleachers then
back up the 2 steps and inside.
I don't have all the results of
the show, but there was a nice gathering of ponies including
those known and some new ones. Many friends of mine, Piper
Pony & Dana, Solitaire & Sir Richard, Gypsy Mist and Sir Gary,
Buck as a pony and also as a trainer for
Spellbound who
impressed everyone with a great shoulder ride with Buck as her
rider. She's a hot one anyway! Hurdles & Miss Donna
was there and my friends Paul Reed & Lady Emily showing off
Golden Pony (now, she is very HOT and wore pantyhose a lot!!!).
It was also nice to see Frisky (Lady Emily's pony persona) show
up.
After the show, Buffie who is a
5'8" knock out, came up
and went for a short ride. She was fantastic and I am glad
she finally got around to riding. I think she liked it and hope
she will do a lot more! Golden Pony was going to ride as
well as a few others, but by the time the pony show was over, it
was time for dinner and most were wanting to get ready (it was a
formal leather type theme). I did have the honor of being
the horse for the Governess Carriage and with MsMighty driving
me, delivered MsMighty, Lady Andrea & Ka-Ching to the dining
hall.
There were a lot of ladies that
caught my eye in hopes they would want to ride as well as some
that I know that have yet to ride that I was hoping would (Miss
Lee, Candace, Domina Z, Bridgett Harrington, and the list goes
on and on!)
This was also the first year I
didn't do any photos and riding.. it was just too wet.
